I’m very grateful to get the opportunity of having my portfolio reviewed by Matt Rota from School of Visual Arts (SVA), NYC. I got this chance through an Open Call held by Artrepreneur last month.
Susie’s work is a good example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Her works succeeds on a technical level, she can paint well, has a powerful sense of color, and a strong compositional sense. Each of these elements, understated in its own right, interplay to build a far more intense and sophisticated image.
I have to say this is my first time of getting a comprehensive feedback on my body of works, from a professional and an educator altogether. I also asked Matt a lot of questions I had in mind during the review, especially about pursuing further study, possibilities of exploring different media or format, my areas of strength//weakness, and some of his favourites. On the other hand, I’m also a big fan of his evoking, intense, artistic line work, a technique I wish I can try to explore in the future.
Here are some works I submitted for the Open Call.
